There is one point Yahweh made about his work in David’s life that is not explicit in his recapitulation of Israel’s history: God cut off David’s enemies.32 The unstated parallel is that in cutting off David’s enemies, God was also delivering Israel from oppressors (see 7:10b–11a). Yahweh then moved on to four promises to David (7:9b–16): 1. He would give David “a great name” (7:9b). 2. Yahweh would “appoint a place” for Israel, where his people and David would have no fear of enemies (7:10–11a).
